OPI is owned by Wella, primarily focusing on customer safety and comfort as “Big 3 Free” means it contains no formaldehyde, toluene, or DBP (dibutyl phthalate). OPI Co-Founder
Suzi Weiss-Fischmann joined Schaeffer shortly after he took over the company and handled most of the business operations. She rose to the positions of Artistic Director and Executive Vice President, which she still holds. Many nail polish enthusiasts are familiar with her name due to the brand’s well-known colors, such as “My Chihuahua Doesn’t Bite Anymore,” “Bring out the Big Gem,” and so on.
History
It began as Odontorium Products, Inc., a dental supplier based in Los Angeles, California. After that, in 1981, George Schaeffer purchased the company and refocused on the nail polish industry, shortening the name to OPI.
Product Lines
Four famous lines that never quit appearing on salon shelves. Additionally, its polishes are known for their “green” formula and ProWide brush, designed for faster and easier application. GelColor

Starting August 1st, 2024, the revamped line will introduce a new formula consisting of one base coat, a diverse palette of 100 shades and three distinct top coats. This enhancement is anchored by the innovative Intelli-Gel Technology™ paired with the Intelli-Gel brush, which together deliver a self-correcting, faster, and more effortless application process.
Furthermore, the reformulation includes Supercharged Pigments that not only expedite application but also elevate the artistry in nail design. In addition, the new formula is conscientiously vegan and free from TPO, HEMA, and DI-HEMA, aligning with the growing demand for ethical beauty products. The existing formula shades will be phased out and, depending on inventory levels, will cease shipping by July 31st, 2024. It’s important to be aware that the shades transitioning to the new formula have not been listed.
Infinite Shine
